Creating With Care at Witney Community Hospital

Creating with Care has been doing some amazing work at Witney Community Hospital.
I have been documenting the wonderful work done by
Angela Conlan the Arts Co-ordinator.
She has worked with both hospital  staff and artists to make a unique
difference to patients experience and staff that work for them.

Sharon Woodward / WoodwardMedia ran a 5 week video production course working with Cornerstone in Didcot and Abingdon & Witney College.
Creative Learning for employment, there are many ways to learn new skills and develop and improve on those you already have.
Based on some work I had done in schools for pupils with mild and complex learning disabilities. I developed a course with Miranda Laurence the Arts Development Officer, Cornerstone.

Soap Box Video: Drama & Film for Adults with Learning Disabilities Influenced by TV programmes such as: Miss Marple, EastEnders, Heartbeat and Casualty.
Over the 5 weeks leaners were involved in a process to create a short improvised video drama.
Throughout the process we explored skills such as Developing Communication, Planning, Organising, Team work, Time management and Confidence building.

The Birthday Party (short video)
Synopsis: When wealthy Scott Lockwood organizes a weekend celebration for sister Stephanie's Birthday. She is ready for a wonderful time with friends and family. However, the weekend becomes a darker occasion and not everybody is who they appear to be.
We received excellent feedback from those taking part.

“Great! Think I should have got 10 years at the end.”
“Brilliant!”
“Was great! Pleased we made a happy ending.”

Soap Box - Access All Areas

Soap Box (the soap trailer)

I was asked back again this year to take part in the Access All Areas (celebration for people with learning disabilities), project at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot on the 15th July.

The previous year I had run a radio drama course over a number of weeks leading to the event.
This year I ran a video drama taster session, where we made our own Soap Opera trailer. Taking the idea from such soaps such as Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, we also thought about other drama series such as Casualty.

The days events are dedicated to people with learning disabilities, currently a wonderful Art Exhibition on by The Shadowlight Arts, who I often support through promoting their work via social media. I was also assisted by a member of the group.

Soap Box is planned as a future 10 week video drama course run by me (Thursday mornings) for people with learning disabilities starting in September 2016 at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot.
